19 of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player won his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and initial on a hard court since spring of 2023.

Victory also means the Russian has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his past six championship matches, including in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his ability to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

Both players traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional title, took control to create a third set.

He saved four early-game chances in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he earned victory with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
